I've always thought of programming as a wonderful, expressive medium. The act of writing a program about something is a way of learning about that something. If I want to make a program which helps generate audio, I'll learn a lot about digital signal processing, sound, maybe music theory. I want as many people as possible to at least have the opportunity to dip their toes.
